How could I not choose Carlton and Paul? Two of the best that I was lucky enough to see play.
Babe said he could have gone with Lou, but felt Hal Chase was a better defensive first baseman (Chase was viewed by many, including Walter Johnson as the best fielding first baseman of that era), who could also hit well. Chase was banned from major league baseball for gambling and allegedly throwing games, so he's not in the Hall of Fame and to a certain extent forgotten when discussing players of the past.

Thanks Terry. Lou is passed over by far too many. Solid career and I don't recall any personality issues or beefs with teammates.
